Arguably the most famous face in the culinary world today, thanks to hit TV series such as #KitchenNightmares and #MasterChef, and of course, the many Michelin Stars under his belt. Everyone loves Gordon Ramsay, yes?
There’s no better time than now to bring a taste of his famed Bread Street Kitchen restaurant in London over to Singapore. Recently opened in Marina Bay Sands, BSK sits alongside other top Michelin-starred restaurants such as CUT by Wolfgang Puck, Waku Ghin by Tetsuya Wakuda, just to name a few.
Alright, let’s talk about the food. We started with the Tamarind Spiced Chicken Wings. Nothing exceptional upon my first bite, though I was expecting a more distinctive taste to it. Think Korean-style wings, it is almost similar. Then came the mains, the Black Angus Steak was done medium-rare perfectly. Came with a choice of two sauces, and we went with the Blue Cheese dip. Similar to the wings, the steak was very average-tasting overall as well. I’d say the Blue Cheese dip probably saved it from being completely sub-par.
Next up was the BSK Burger. Surprisingly, the beef patty was juicy and tender, topped with their house-specialty sauce and monterey jack cheese, finally we’ve got a dish that is slightly more distinctive in taste.
Moving onto the service and ambience, I must say I was rather disappointed on the whole. Service was bad considering this being a top-tier restaurant, the staff seems undertrained and couldn’t offer any suggestions. The manager on duty was equally poor as well. For every 5-10 minutes, he’d walk over to diners asking them the same question ‘Is everything okay?’. I mean, I do find the gesture sweet, but don’t overdo it, it gets annoying. So what are you gonna do if I said I didn’t enjoy it, right?
Seating arrangement was horrible. We made reservations one week in advance, yet we ended up having to share a huge communal table with two other group of diners. Space between everyone was extremely scarce, you could hear everyone talking into your ears. #BIGFAIL
I’m sorry Ramsay, it’s clear that BSK Singapore have failed to live up to your huge reputation. For the amount I’m paying, this is definitely my version of #RestaurantNightmares.
